Business and human rights

This research project aims to identify and test replicable business practices, empower stakeholders to advocate for and implement just transitions in global supply chains, and demonstrate effective human rights and environmental due diligence.

This project will improve understanding of modern slavery risks in global supply chains by identifying and better understanding which sectors have a high risk of modern slavery, and how risk factors differ across sectors. 

This research focuses on an assessment of the impacts of strategic litigation on corporate behaviour, including when, how and why litigation has (or has not) led to changes in corporate behaviour.

Our research on the construction industry has focused on why women’s participation in the sector has tracked backwards in the last decade, as well as understanding of the experiences of LGBTQ+ workers in the sector, and how workplace wellbeing interventions, such as a compressed five-day working week, can impact construction workers and their families.

The Australian Human Rights Institute and the Australian Human Rights Commission examine the implementation of the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) in Australia.
