Three-quarters of universities aren’t being transparent about sexual violence

Three-quarters of Australia’s universities are not perceptibly reporting sexual violence on campus despite their promises to be transparent, as advocates demand an end to universities regulating themselves when it came to sexual harm.

Of the 39 universities that promised to be open about sexual assaults and harassment on their campuses and disciplinary actions, 29 either aren’t reporting them in an easily accessible way – or aren’t reporting them at all.

Nine Newspapers spoke to Australian Human Rights Institute Research Fellow Dr Allison Henry about her PhD research which found that there had been little progress in reducing campus sexual violence over the past decade.
